Coco Gauff sheds her shyness as she discusses when she will be seen with her ‘mystery boyfriend’ Jalen Sera.
Coco Gauff is entering a new phase of her life as the 20-year-old publicly announces her first relationship in her professional tennis career. Her boyfriend will start attending some U.S. tournaments.
The 2023 US Open winner and 2022 French Open finalist has kept this relationship very private, striving to shield her personal life from the media and public scrutiny.
It now appears that Coco Gauff is ready to go public with Jalen Sara, following earlier speculation from fans about her dating someone in early 2024. She had previously confirmed having a boyfriend.
“My boyfriend will probably attend some tournaments in the U.S.,” Gauff told People.com. “It’s just a little bit easier than coming to Europe.”
When asked if he will be at the Olympics, Gauff added, “I think just my mom and dad for now, because it’s in Paris. It’s far from home.”
Gauff reveals that Sara helps her stay grounded.
The demands of professional sports can be incredibly time-consuming and stressful, not only due to training but also because of obligations like managing relationships with fans and media.
However, at the start of her adult life, Gauff has found her boyfriend to be a dependable support in helping her stay true to her hobbies and interests, even if he may not realize it.
“[The reading challenge] started because I loved reading as a kid and kind of lost it as I got older,” Gauff said. “Initially, my goal was to read 12 books, one per month.”
“But then my boyfriend mentioned he reads as many books as the year we’re in—24 in 2024, 23 in 2023. So, when he said he was going to read 24, I got super competitive and doubled my goal to match his. I like trying to finish faster than him. I’m two books ahead, so I’m winning right now.”
