MIAMI — Bam Adebayo, renowned for his elite defense in the NBA and set to represent the U.S. in the Olympics for the second time, plans to finalize a three-year, $166 million extension with the Miami Heat once the league’s offseason restrictions lift next month, as reported by multiple sources.

Adebayo, who turns 27 in July, will be eligible to sign the contract on July 6 under league regulations. He currently has approximately $72 million remaining over two years on his existing deal with the Heat, the team he has been with since being drafted in 2017.

Recognized as Miami’s captain and starting center, Adebayo has earned a spot on the NBA All-Defensive Team for the past five seasons, securing first-team honors for the first time this past season.

“It feels like a long time coming, obviously,” Adebayo remarked upon his first-team selection. “I’m just cherishing this moment, feeling blessed to be recognized.”

Having previously contributed to the U.S. Olympic gold-winning team in Tokyo, Adebayo is gearing up for the upcoming Paris Games. In the past season, he averaged 19.3 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.9 assists for the Heat.

Adebayo is currently in the third year of his five-year, $163 million contract with Miami.
