MILWAUKEE — With the 23rd overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, the Milwaukee Bucks selected 6-foot-5 shooting guard AJ Johnson, who most recently played in Australia’s NBL (National Basketball League).

Johnson, a 19-year-old from California, was the first American player to join the NBL’s Next Star program for emerging prospects since LaMelo Ball. He was ranked No. 47 in the 2023 ESPN 100 draft prospects and No. 26 in 247 Sports’ 2023 recruiting rankings.

Despite limited playing time, Johnson displayed flashes of dynamic athleticism, impressive slashing ability, playmaking potential, and strong defensive skills.

Johnson was recently projected to be picked by the Milwaukee Bucks with the 33rd overall pick, the third selection of the second round, by The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie.

Unless there’s a trade, the Milwaukee Bucks will make their next pick at 33rd overall on Thursday, June 27th.
