Pitt basketball forward Blake Hinson inks a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.

PITTSBURGH – According to league sources, Pitt forward Blake Hinson will sign a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Hinson aims to join his former Pitt teammate Carlton Carrington, who was picked 14th overall by the Washington Wizards, on an NBA roster for the 2024-25 season.

Two-way contracts allow players to play for both an NBA team and its G League affiliate, with the player remaining under the NBA franchise’s control throughout the season. Each NBA team can have up to two two-way contracts, which can only be given to players with less than four years of NBA experience. These players do not count towards the NBA team’s 15-man roster limit.

Hinson, who was an ACC first-team selection in 2023-24, averaged 18.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, scoring 20 or more points in 15 games. He set a school record with 110 3-point field goals, leading Pitt to a 22-11 record (12-8 ACC) and an appearance in the ACC Tournament semifinals. Hinson shot a career-best 42.1% from 3-point range and tied for 11th in the ACC record books for 3-point field goals.

Hinson recorded three of the top seven games in Pitt’s history for most 3-pointers made, including a program-record nine 3-pointers in wins over West Virginia and Louisville during the 2023-24 season. His 41-point game against Louisville is tied for the third-most points in a game by a Panther and is a record for the Pitt Petersen Events Center.

In just two seasons at Pitt, the Florida native became the fourth-fastest player to score 1,000 career points (61 games), amassing 1,159 points, 363 rebounds, and 207 3-point field goals in 69 games. He finished his Pitt career ranked 30th in scoring, seventh in 3-point field goals, and sixth in 3-point percentage (.401). Hinson set a program record for 3-pointers per game (3.0) and joined Michael Young (2016, 2017) as the only Panthers to earn all-ACC honors in multiple seasons.

Hinson also received the 2024 Panther Award and is now recognized on Pitt’s prestigious Varsity Walk.
