Rams Update: Braden Fiske to Train with Aaron Donald
The Los Angeles Rams have set high expectations for their second-round pick in 2024, defensive tackle Braden Fiske from Florida State. Typically, second-round picks aren’t under intense pressure, but Fiske finds himself in a challenging spot as the first defensive tackle brought in after the retirement of superstar Aaron Donald.
Donald retired just before the 2024 NFL Draft, leading the Rams to select a pair of Florida State defensive players in the first two rounds. Fiske, who plays the same position as Donald, has been positioned as his unofficial replacement. While the Rams don’t expect Fiske to fill Donald’s shoes, he will be stepping into a significant role on the defensive line.
In a gesture of continued commitment to the team even after his retirement, Donald plans to train with Fiske before training camp, as reported by DJ Siddiqi of Forbes. Fiske mentioned, “Not really noteworthy advice,” regarding his discussions with Donald. “We’re just going to get some workouts in during the next couple of weeks before training camp, so that’ll be cool.”
Working closely with Donald could greatly benefit Fiske’s development. Donald, a Rams legend and one of the greatest defensive players in history, could provide invaluable insights into excelling as a defensive tackle.
As the Rams focus on integrating younger players into their defense, Donald’s presence could significantly aid in their development over the coming years.
Fiske was surprised by the Rams’ decision to trade up for him. Although some talent evaluators questioned his fit due to his size and age, his work ethic and technique are well-regarded. Fiske admitted he didn’t expect the Rams to select him but is thrilled with the opportunity and eager to begin working with Donald.
