Travis Perry is living his dream of playing for Kentucky.

When Travis Perry committed to the Kentucky Wildcats last year, it surprised many fans.

Some believed he wasn’t a priority for the previous coaching staff or didn’t fit their style. Nevertheless, despite a complete staff overhaul in the off-season with John Calipari’s departure, Perry remained committed to Kentucky, the only recruit to do so.

Perry is the all-time leading scorer in KHSAA history and recently won a state title, defeating future teammate Trent Noah in the finals. He then moved to Lexington with the rest of the team, starting summer practices a few weeks ago.

At the Club Blue New Era event, a meet-and-greet for fans to connect with the new Kentucky basketball team, Perry shared his thoughts with the media.

“It means a lot; it’s a huge honor. It’s great to meet and interact with all of these people. I think pretty much every person has said thank you for being here,” Perry told KSR. “That’s something you don’t get a lot of places. It means a lot to me, and I know it means a lot to the other guys too.”

As a freshman, Perry quickly began preparing his teammates for the unique experience of being part of the Big Blue Nation and living in Kentucky. Having grown up attending games at Rupp Arena to watch the Wildcats, Perry now finds himself living his dream.

Currently, he is participating in summer workouts and taking summer classes at the University of Kentucky, preparing for his freshman season. How does he feel?

“It’s a dream come true. You always expect it a little bit, but until you get on the road and get up there, it’s a different feeling,” he said. “I remember coming to camps, waiting outside the Lodge trying to get autographs. Now I’m the one walking into the Lodge to go to my room. Moments like that put things in perspective, showing how blessed I am to live out a dream. It’s really exciting.”
