Blue Jays Open to Trading All-Star Who Would Be Ideal Fit for Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox need to enhance their starting rotation soon. With the trade deadline approaching in less than three weeks, the Red Sox, currently 50-40 and a season-high 10 games above .500, are poised for a playoff spot if the season ended today. Few anticipated the Red Sox performing this well, making it an opportune moment to invest.

Although Boston is in a strong position, bolstering the rotation could elevate their performance further. Toronto Blue Jays All-Star Yusei Kikuchi could be a valuable addition. While trading within the division is challenging, it’s not out of the question. Kikuchi has had a strong season, and according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, Toronto is “willing” to trade players eligible for free agency, including Kikuchi.

Feinsand notes, “The Blue Jays’ impending free agents include infielder/DH Justin Turner ($13 million salary in 2024), outfielder Kevin Kiermaier ($10.5 million), left-handed starter Yusei Kikuchi ($10 million), righty relievers Yimi García ($6 million) and Trevor Richards ($2.15 million), and catcher Danny Jansen ($5.2 million). Sources indicate the Blue Jays are open to trading players with expiring contracts but not those with control beyond 2024.

Executives suggest the Blue Jays may try to move most or all of their rental players to acquire prospects for their farm system, which MLB Pipeline ranked 24th at the season’s start.”

With Garrett Whitlock out, Boston’s rotation is short-handed. Acquiring Kikuchi could address this issue.
