Xander Bogaerts is nearing a weekend return to San Diego after collecting two hits in a rehab assignment with low Single-A Lake Elsinore during their 6-3 loss to Fresno on Wednesday.
Bogaerts played seven innings at second base in the first of his two expected appearances with Lake Elsinore.
He went 2-for-4 with a strikeout and a run scored, holding a .267/.421/.333 slash line in five rehab games, including four last week at Triple-A El Paso.
Bogaerts has been sidelined since fracturing his left shoulder on a diving play on March 20. He accumulated about two dozen live at-bats during early practice at Petco Park on Tuesday before heading to Lake Elsinore.
Shortstop Leodalis De Vries (.751 OPS) went 1-for-4 with a walk and a run scored, while first baseman Ethan Long (.814 OPS) went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two walks.
Right-hander Jose Luis Reyes (7.18 ERA) allowed three runs over six innings in his start.
