Seattle Mariners Make Important Roster Moves Ahead of Wednesday’s Game

The Seattle Mariners made significant roster moves by placing outfielder Dominic Canzone on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday. To fill his spot, they have recalled Jonathan Clase from Tacoma.

According to Mariners PR, Canzone was placed on the IL due to a “right adductor strain.” He initially sustained the injury on Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays but got a break with a day off. He returned to the lineup on Tuesday against the San Diego Padres, where he managed five innings and hit a double before being pulled in the fifth inning due to discomfort while running the bases, as reported by the Seattle Times’ Ryan Divish.

Canzone’s stint on the IL will sideline him for the Mariners’ five remaining games before the All-Star break and the first game of a three-game series against the Houston Astros on July 19. He is batting .211 this season with seven home runs and 14 RBIs.

Clase has been with Tacoma since June 2, having previously made six appearances and three starts for Seattle from May 24 to June 2. This season, he’s appeared in 15 major league games, batting .176 with three RBIs and two steals. In 59 games with the Rainiers, he’s hitting .274 with 10 home runs and 34 RBIs.

This marks Clase’s third stint with the Mariners this year. Although he wasn’t listed in the starting lineup for Wednesday, he is expected to start in the outfield during Canzone’s absence.

The Mariners scored eight runs in Tuesday’s win against the Padres, showing signs of improving consistency and effectiveness on offense.
