Boston Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen has a strong argument for being included on this year’s American League All-Star roster.
Ranked fifth on baseball’s career saves list, the 36-year-old right-hander has successfully converted 18 of 19 save opportunities this season for the Sox. He boasts an impressive 2.01 earned run average across 31 appearances, with 35 strikeouts in just 31.1 innings.
The Red Sox recently lost one of their three All-Star representatives when third baseman Rafael Devers withdrew due to a lingering injury. He was replaced by Baltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg.

As for Jansen? He’s actually pleased to skip the game next Tuesday in Arlington, Texas.
“I’m so happy about that, I ain’t gonna lie,” Jansen said on the “Baseball Isn’t Boring” podcast. “When I heard my name wasn’t going to the All-Star, I’m like, ‘I’m gonna go home baby, I’m gonna go for a week.’ … I’m coming baby. I’m gonna spend a good seven days in L.A.”
