The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners officially joined the Southeastern Conference on July 1. With SEC media days recently held, the shift now feels concrete.

Texas will face a new schedule, including games against the Georgia Bulldogs and Florida Gators, and an out-of-conference matchup against the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor. Excitement also surrounds the return of old rivalries, such as those with the Arkansas Razorbacks and Texas A&M Aggies.

The Longhorns and Razorbacks last met in 2021, with Arkansas defeating Texas 40-21 in Fayetteville during Steve Sarkisian’s first year at Texas and Sam Pittman’s second year at Arkansas. During media days, Sarkisian recalled the electric atmosphere in Fayetteville but stirred social media with his comment that Arkansas fans might “hate Texas more than they like themselves,” emphasizing the intensity of the rivalry.

In response, Pittman agreed with Sarkisian’s observation, noting that the Arkansas fan base was extremely excited for the game against Texas. He acknowledged that while the team dynamics have changed since their last matchup, the rivalry remains strong. Pittman expressed enthusiasm about playing Texas at home again and confirmed that Sarkisian’s comments about the fan base’s sentiment were likely accurate.
