Shohei Ohtani’s 473-foot home run, which impressed Clayton Kershaw, helped lift the Dodgers over the Red Sox.
Shohei Ohtani did it again in spectacular fashion. He hit a towering home run that helped the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Boston Red Sox 9-6 on Sunday Night Baseball, reaching another significant milestone that places him in an elite group as he often does throughout his career.
Ohtani hit his 30th home run of the season, extending the lead to 6-2 for the Dodgers. His 473-foot blast left everyone in awe, including teammate Clayton Kershaw, who was being interviewed live during the ESPN broadcast and was visibly amazed.
The series finale between the two teams started with the visiting Red Sox leading 2-0 at Dodger Stadium. However, with a powerful offensive display, the Dodgers took control of the game.
Shohei Ohtani Reaches Another Milestone
The Los Angeles Dodgers secured their victory with a total of five home runs, culminating in a big rally at the end of the fifth inning. The longest and final home run came from Shohei Ohtani.
The Japanese star hit the ball between right and center field, marking his 30th home run of the season and becoming the first National League hitter to reach this milestone. Facing Boston starter Kutter Crawford in his third at-bat, Ohtani hit an 85.9 mph cutter out of the park.
At Dodger Stadium, only four hits have exceeded 460 feet in the Statcast era, and Ohtani owns two of them. His recent homer is the second longest in the stadium, surpassed only by Giancarlo Stanton’s 475-foot shot in 2015. This marks Ohtani’s fourth consecutive season with 30 or more home runs. His best season was in 2021 when he hit 46 home runs.
