As another indicator that the 2024 season is approaching, the Detroit Lions will start their training camp this week. While rookies reported on Saturday, July 20, the rest of the team will arrive on Tuesday, July 23.
The first practice of training camp is scheduled for Wednesday, July 24, once everyone has reported. Shortly after that, the team will begin practicing in pads, marking the start of serious evaluations.
After finishing the 2023 season with a 12-5 record, winning the NFC North, and reaching the NFC Championship Game, the Lions have high expectations. They are even considered among the favorites to win the Super Bowl.
However, they’ll face historical challenges, as no team has won the Super Bowl after losing the NFC title game the previous year since the Green Bay Packers did in 1995-96, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.
Despite this, the Lions have a strong chance to break that trend, retaining much of last season’s roster and making key defensive upgrades, addressing their weaker side of the ball in 2023.
Are experts as optimistic about the Lions as we are? Let’s explore the pre-training camp NFL power rankings from experts to find out.
