The Texas Longhorns have faced some challenges on the recruiting trail for the 2025 cycle. In recent months, they’ve missed out on several key prospects, including five-star Duncanville (TX) wide receiver Dakorien Moore, who committed to Oregon earlier this month.

However, the Longhorns have also secured several notable commitments this month, including linebacker Jonathan Cunningham, tight end Nick Townsend, safety Kade Phillips, and edge rusher Smith Orogbo. Despite these additions, the team has not yet landed a major standout recruit, which has sparked some discussion among fans.

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian remains unconcerned, expressing confidence in the team’s recruiting process heading into the end of July. “I’ve never been one to panic in recruiting,” Sarkisian said at the Texas High School Coaches Association Convention. He believes that while summer recruiting often generates hype, the true measure of success comes from on-field performance. Historically, the Longhorns have closed strong, finishing with top-five recruiting classes in recent years and securing key recruits late in the process.

Sarkisian emphasizes the importance of cultural fit and character in their recruitment strategy, which has proven successful. The Longhorns have a history of making significant additions from August to December, with many top-rated recruits committing during this period.

Looking ahead, the Longhorns still have several major targets, including five-star safety Jonah Williams, five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi, five-star receivers Kaliq Lockett and Jaime Ffrench, and five-star athlete Michael Terry III, who are expected to make decisions in the coming weeks and months.

Sarkisian remains confident, urging patience until December to fully assess the success of their recruiting efforts.
