Matthew Stafford chose not to discuss the specifics of his revised contract with the LA Rams but expressed his satisfaction after joining training camp.
The Rams and their quarterback finalized a new contract on Wednesday, preventing any hold-out during camp.
Stafford had remained tight-lipped with reporters throughout the off-season regarding his contract situation. When asked if the new deal met his expectations, he did not provide details but stated, “I’m happy to be where I am.”
He continued, “I’m happy to be here, happy to be playing. I’m excited about playing football this year, and that’s what matters most to me.”
ESPN reports that Stafford was scheduled to earn a $31 million base salary this season under the four-year, $160 million contract he signed with the Rams in 2022.
Despite having three years remaining on his contract, only $15 million of his $27 million salary for 2025 and none of his $26 million salary for 2026 were guaranteed before the recent adjustment.
The agreement was reached on Wednesday, the day players were due to report for training camp at Loyola Marymount University.
When asked if the contract dispute might have prevented him from participating on Wednesday, Stafford mentioned he doesn’t “even think about that kind of stuff.”
Rams coach Sean McVay praised Stafford’s performance on the first day of training camp, noting, “I thought he did really well. He navigated some progressions effectively and ended the day with a great red zone touchdown pass to Davis Allen.”
