The Oregon Ducks’ 2025 recruiting class suffered a setback when four-star defensive lineman Josiah Sharma switched his commitment to the Texas Longhorns on Thursday night.

“After long and deep conversations with the University of Texas, I feel like I’m home,” Sharma announced on Twitter/X.

Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 325 pounds, Sharma was initially expected to choose Texas before his surprising commitment to Oregon and coach Dan Lanning. However, he ultimately felt more at home with Texas coach Steve Sarkisian. Texas’ 2025 recruiting class is now ranked No. 13 nationally.

According to On3, Sharma is the No. 5 overall prospect in California, the nation’s No. 7 defensive lineman, and the No. 83 overall prospect in the 2025 class.

Sharma, who plays both offensive and defensive line for Folsom High School in California, comes from a program that has won five of the last six CIF Class 1A state football championships.

Losing Sharma is an unusual setback for Lanning and the Oregon recruiting team.

However, there’s still positive news for the Ducks as several five-star prospects in the 2025 and 2026 recruiting classes are heading to Eugene this weekend for the annual Saturday Night Live Camp at Autzen Stadium.

The next major commitment to watch is from the No. 1 safety recruit Trey McNutt. After postponing his decision, the five-star prospect visited the Texas A&M Aggies this week and will also be in Oregon this weekend.

Although the Ducks remain the frontrunners for McNutt, his visit to Texas A&M could impact his decision.

If McNutt commits to Oregon, he will join wide receiver Dakorien Moore, Oregon’s highest-rated recruit ever, as the two five-star players in their 2025 recruiting class.

With commitments from Moore and four-star cornerback Dorian Brew, the Ducks are currently behind only Ohio State, Alabama, and Georgia in the national class rankings.
