The second day of BYU football’s Fall camp has concluded. Although the media was not allowed to observe Thursday’s practice, BYU’s social media accounts shared some practice highlights. A notable contested catch by senior wide receiver Darius Lassiter was the standout moment from Thursday’s session.
Gerry Bohanon, who declared on Wednesday that his shoulder is fully healed, launched a deep pass to Darius Lassiter. Despite being surrounded by Nate Johnson, Tanner Wall, and Chika Ebunoha, Lassiter extended and made the catch.
Lassiter was BYU’s top receiver in contested situations last year, and he is expected to be relied upon even more in such scenarios this season. With uncertainty at the quarterback position, having a dependable target like Lassiter will be crucial for BYU in generating big plays.
Last October, Lassiter looked like BYU’s best receiver before an injury limited his play in November. He gained national attention with a one-handed catch against Texas Tech that made the SportsCenter Top 10.
A week later against Texas, Lassiter made several contested catches, finishing with five receptions for 75 yards, including a long catch that was ruled out of bounds. He was the lone bright spot on offense that day.
Lassiter has the potential to be BYU’s leading receiver in 2024.
