AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze has urged fans to expect more from him this coming season after his impressive performance in the pre-season win over Manchester City, reports PUNCH Sports Extra.
In a 3-2 victory at Yankee Stadium in New York City, the Nigerian forward showcased his skills, providing two stunning assists. Erling Haaland initially put Manchester City ahead in the 19th minute, but Chukwueze quickly made his mark.
Picking up a loose ball on the edge of City’s area, Chukwueze drew two defenders before sending a teasing cross for Lorenzo Colombo, who scored the equalizer in the 30th minute. Four minutes later, the Chukwueze-Colombo combination struck again, with Chukwueze delivering another pinpoint cross for Colombo to score Milan’s second goal.
John McAtee equalized for Manchester City ten minutes into the second half, but Marco Nasti came off the bench to secure a late winner for AC Milan.
Chukwueze played 65 minutes, during which he recorded two assists, completed 80 percent of his passes and 100 percent of his crosses, and had one shot off target. After the match, he praised new coach Paulo Fonseca for his confidence in him.
“I love the new coach; he gave me a chance right away, and it’s important when someone gives you confidence. I tell the fans that they will see a new Samu this year,” Chukwueze said via Milan Matters.
Last season, the former Villarreal player scored three goals and provided three assists in 33 appearances across all competitions in his debut season with the Italian club.
In the next ten days, Paolo Fonseca’s squad will face Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, where Chukwueze aims to deliver strong performances to secure his spot in the first team.
