Even before the deaths of John Lennon and George Harrison, a Beatles reunion seemed highly improbable. The Fab Four had not parted ways on the best of terms, making it extremely unlikely that they would have reunited in the mid-’70s. When Elton John was asked about the possibility of a Beatles reunion in 1976, he was skeptical. Here’s why:

Why Elton John Believed a Beatles Reunion Was Unlikely

The Beatles disbanded in 1970, and although their time together was relatively short, it was iconic. Fans hoped for a possible reunion, but Elton John was not optimistic. In an interview with Playboy, he expressed his doubts:

“The only benefit of getting The Beatles back together would be seeing how Lennon and McCartney wrote songs and how the four of them would interact,” John said. “It’s an absolutely impossible situation; there’s no way they will.”

John did acknowledge that, if a reunion were to happen, it could be remarkable. He admired their music, describing it as “Standards,” and recognized the unique and unmatched impact they had on music.

“If somehow it did happen, it could be either a disaster or something wonderful,” John continued. “I don’t think anyone has matched their popularity or achievements, considering the timeless quality of their songs.”

While fans have enjoyed various pseudo-reunions over the years, they can never quite capture the excitement of the Beatles’ original era. For now, we can revisit their greatest hits to relive the magic.
