The Pittsburgh Pirates had one of the most impressive draft classes of the 2024 MLB Draft, acquiring numerous highly talented prospects. According to MLB’s Jim Callis, they had the second-best draft class among all teams. Baseball America has updated their top prospect lists to include recent draft picks, and now that the Pirates have signed all their top selections, it’s time to see where these players rank within the organization.

Konnor Griffin, predictably, is ranked as the top pick among the Pirates’ draft class. Baseball America places him as their second-best prospect behind Bubba Chandler and 82nd overall in their top 100 prospects update. While Griffin is the only draft pick in the top 100, several other selections are featured in the updated top 30 list for the Pirates.

In Baseball America’s midseason update, second-round pick Wyatt Sanford is ranked as the Pirates’ sixth-best prospect, positioned behind Thomas Harrington and ahead of Jack Brannigan. The next highest-ranked prospect from this year’s draft class is right-hander Levi Sterling, selected 37th overall with the Pirates’ first-round competitive balance pick. Sterling was highly regarded as a top high school pitcher in this year’s draft.

This adds three new top 10 prospects to the Pirates’ organization, including one in the top 100. Additionally, Baseball America’s top 30 Pirates prospect list features Josh Hartle, a left-hander from Wake Forest drafted in the third round, who is ranked as the 17th-best prospect. He falls behind fellow southpaw Hunter Barco.

Finally, right-hander Matt Ager, taken by the Pirates in the sixth round, is ranked 22nd among the team’s prospects by Baseball America. Ager was listed as the 104th-best prospect in the draft and ranks just ahead of outfielder Matt Gorski but behind catcher Omar Alfonzo.

Overall, the Pirates have added five significant prospects to their system: three in the top 10, one in the top 20, and another in the top 25. Even post-trade deadline, the Pirates’ system remains strong, with this year’s draft providing a notable boost to their organization.
