Newcastle have been trying to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace for weeks, but it seems Eddie Howe is now considering other options. The Magpies have had four bids for Guehi rejected, with Crystal Palace demanding £65m for the England international. The latest offer from Newcastle was £60m, according to the Daily Mail.

Now, reports from Turkey indicate that Newcastle have reached out to sign another defender. The Turkish outlet Aslinda reports that Newcastle have made an enquiry about Jayden Oosterwolde from Fenerbahce. Newcastle have asked Fenerbahce if they can begin negotiations for the Dutchman, who has played full matches in both of Fenerbahce’s Super Lig games this season under Jose Mourinho.

Aslinda also states that Fenerbahce have set a €25m (£21.3m) price tag on Oosterwolde, who is contracted with the Turkish club until July 2027. Fenerbahce ideally wants to keep Oosterwolde, who can play both left-back and center-back. However, with Fenerbahce close to selling Ferdi Kadioglu to Brighton, they may be reluctant to also sell Oosterwolde if the Kadioglu deal is finalized before Newcastle can advance in their talks for the 23-year-old.

Interestingly, Crystal Palace have also enquired about Oosterwolde. Oliver Glasner already has several options for central defense, including Guehi, Joachim Andersen, Chris Richards, Chadi Riad, and Rob Holding, making it unlikely they would sign another defender unless one of their current options is leaving. This could suggest that a deal for Guehi is close, either with Newcastle or another club, such as Liverpool, who have shown interest in the Crystal Palace defender. Liverpool may need a replacement for Joe Gomez, who has requested to leave, and could target Guehi.

Additionally, Andersen has received bids from Fulham, so Oosterwolde could replace the Danish international if Crystal Palace secure his signature. Intriguingly, Newcastle have also been linked with Andersen, indicating they might be targeting another Crystal Palace defender.
