Oklahoma Secures Top 2025 Recruit: DJ Uiagalelei Beats Out Texas and Texas A&M for Michael Fasusi
On Wednesday, Oklahoma secured a significant commitment for its 2025 recruiting class, as five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi chose the Sooners over Texas and Texas A&M. Fasusi, a 6-foot-6, 295-pound standout from Lewisville, Texas, is ranked ninth nationally by ESPN and is now the highest-rated prospect in Oklahoma’s 2025 class, which will be the program’s first in the SEC.
As the No. 2 offensive tackle in the 2025 class according to ESPN, Fasusi’s commitment marks a milestone for the Sooners. He becomes the highest-rated offensive tackle recruit for Oklahoma since ESPN began its rankings in 2006. If Fasusi officially signs with the Sooners later this year, he will join quarterback Jackson Arnold and defensive tackle David Stone as one of the top-10 recruits of the Venables era.
Before Fasusi’s commitment, Oklahoma was ranked No. 12 in ESPN’s team rankings for the 2025 cycle. His decision to join the Sooners adds a major boost to their recruiting efforts as they embark on their first season in the SEC, outpacing SEC rivals Texas and Texas A&M.
Fasusi, who made the decision after thorough consideration and prayer with his family, described Oklahoma as the clear choice without any reservations. “With Oklahoma, there was no ‘but.’ It was the only option that had no ‘but’ to it. The process was hard, but it became really easy for me to make this decision in the end,” Fasusi told ESPN.
The announcement, made during a ceremony at Lewisville High School, coincides with the five-year anniversary of Fasusi and his family’s move from Ondo State, Nigeria, to the United States. His parents, Ebenezer and Olayemi, relocated to offer their children better educational opportunities. Fasusi’s football journey began in high school and quickly gained momentum, leading to nearly 40 scholarship offers from major programs.
Fasusi’s recruitment was closely followed by programs like Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, and Missouri. Despite strong interests from these schools, including significant efforts from Texas A&M’s offensive line coach Adam Cushing and Texas’ Steve Sarkisian and Kyle Flood, the Sooners managed to distinguish themselves. Oklahoma’s proximity to Fasusi’s home and the strong recruitment efforts of offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh played crucial roles in his decision.
With Fasusi’s commitment, Oklahoma now boasts two top-100 recruits in the 2025 class, alongside four-star defensive end C.J. Nickson. Fasusi’s commitment adds to a growing offensive line class, which also includes four-star tackle Ryan Fodje and three-star guards Darius Afalava and Owen Hollenbeck.
As Fasusi’s pledge concludes a hotly contested recruitment, only three of the top 10 prospects in ESPN’s 2025 rankings remain uncommitted. Five-star linebacker Jonah Williams is set to announce his decision soon, with Texas, Oregon, Texas A&M, LSU, and USC in contention. Top defensive tackles Elijah Griffin and Justus Terry are also expected to continue their recruitments into the fall.
