The Detroit Lions made three roster moves ahead of their Week 1 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. On Saturday, the team announced the promotion of wide receiver Tom Kennedy and defensive lineman Kyle Peko from the practice squad for the game. Additionally, defensive lineman Chris Smith was signed to the active roster.
Kennedy, one of four wide receivers added to the practice squad after the 53-man roster cuts, wasn’t the most high-profile addition. The practice squad also includes veterans Donovan Peoples-Jones, Tim Patrick, and Allen Robinson, who will have to wait another week to debut in 2024.
With only four wide receivers currently on the Lions’ 53-man roster—Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Kalif Raymond, and rookie Isaiah Williams—Kennedy adds much-needed depth.
Peko and Smith will provide extra support on the defensive line, especially with D.J. Reader’s status uncertain. Reader practiced on a limited basis throughout the week and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game. While head coach Dan Campbell mentioned Reader might play, his snaps will likely be limited due to his recovery from last season’s torn quadriceps injury.
The Lions will face the Rams at Ford Field on Sunday night.
