The Giants’ loss to Washington was made more difficult by the injury to kicker Graham Gano.

The Giants’ defeat to Washington was exacerbated by kicker Graham Gano’s injury. Gano hurt his right hamstring chasing down Austin Ekeler on the opening kickoff, which proved costly for New York. Without Gano, and after punter Jamie Gillan missed an early extra point attempt, the Giants were forced to rely solely on touchdowns, missing several two-point conversions and forgoing a potential game-winning field goal late in the game. These missed opportunities contributed to their 21-18 loss.

Coach Brian Daboll acknowledged the tough situation but emphasized that the team had chances to win despite the setback. Gano, who had been dealing with a groin injury but cleared to play, said his hamstring injury was unfortunate but felt a responsibility to stay in the game.

Washington capitalized on the situation, relying on kicker Austin Seibert’s perfect 7-for-7 performance for all of their points. Commanders players were even surprised by the Giants’ decision to go for it on fourth down instead of attempting field goals, underscoring the impact of Gano’s absence.
