Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever breaks another all-time rookie record.
Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has made history once again, becoming the rookie with the most points scored in a single WNBA season. With over 750 points, she also joins an elite group of just 11 players in WNBA history to reach that milestone. Clark broke the record during a game against the Dallas Wings on Sunday, September 15th, surpassing the previous mark of 746 points set by Seimone Augustus 18 years ago.
In her debut season with the Fever, Clark has dominated multiple categories, leading rookies in points, assists, and three-pointers made. She set the rookie assist record with 247, surpassing Ticha Penicheiro’s 225 from 1998. Additionally, Clark broke the all-time WNBA assist record by dishing her 317th assist in a game against the Las Vegas Aces, overtaking Alyssa Thomas’ record from the previous season.
Clark’s standout performance on August 28 saw her break another rookie record, becoming the WNBA’s all-time leader in three-pointers made in a rookie season with 86, surpassing the 2022 record of 85 set by Rhyne Howard.
With her remarkable stats, Clark is the frontrunner for the Rookie of the Year Award, especially following Angel Reese’s early season-ending wrist injury. Clark’s prolific rookie campaign has also drawn comparisons to NBA achievements, making her a standout in both leagues.
Despite her success, both Clark and other players have spoken out against the abuse and racism they have faced from fans, an issue the WNBA commissioner has publicly addressed.
