Indianapolis Colts’ second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson is taking responsibility for the team’s 0-2 start to the 2024 season. However, some encouraging advice from veteran running back Jonathan Taylor aims to shift his mindset.
Taylor shared with team reporter Amanda Foster that he reminded Richardson not to take the blame for the Colts’ slow start, emphasizing that football is a team effort.
“I just told him, ‘Hey, it takes all of us. It’s not all on you,'” Taylor said Thursday. “As the quarterback, there’s a lot of attention on you, but it’s the ultimate team sport.”
So far this season, Richardson has passed for 416 yards with three touchdowns and four interceptions, completing just 49.1 percent of his passes. He’s also contributed 93 rushing yards and a touchdown, trailing only Taylor’s 150 rushing yards for the team.
One of Richardson’s standout moments was a 60-yard touchdown pass to Alec Pierce in Week 1, but he’d likely trade that highlight for a victory.
While Richardson works to find his rhythm, Taylor is aware that he’s not alone in facing challenges. The Colts’ defense has given up an average of 400 yards per game, ranking 31st in the NFL going into Week 3.
“It takes all of us—offense, defense, and special teams—to win,” Taylor said. “We don’t want him carrying that weight, and he knows he doesn’t have to. He won’t.”
Richardson and the Colts will look to bounce back when they face No. 1 pick Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
