SANTA CLARA — Rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall’s return to practice has been postponed for at least another week.
The 49ers decided on Wednesday to continue Pearsall’s physical therapy rather than start his practice window.
Pearsall remains on the reserve/non-football injury list after being shot during an attempted armed robbery on August 31.
He was hospitalized for less than 24 hours, as the bullet passed through his chest without hitting vital organs.
After a brief break from physical activity, Pearsall has been consistently working out and attending meetings at the 49ers’ facility.
On Monday, coach Kyle Shanahan did not rule out the possibility of opening Pearsall’s practice window, which was mandatory to remain closed for the first four games of the season.
Shanahan explained that the team would assess Pearsall’s readiness for football activities once he’s cleared to practice.
“We’ll see once he’s back at practice and evaluate from there,” Shanahan said. “I get excited when guys return from IR, but the real decision comes after seeing them in practice.”
The 49ers drafted Pearsall with the 31st overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
He was placed on the non-football injury list on September 2, a week before San Francisco’s season opener against the Jets. He had to miss the first four games, and this week marks the first chance for the team to activate him.
The 49ers face the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium, followed by a Thursday night game against the Seattle Seahawks on October 10.
