“He’s very consistent, calm, intelligent, and highly coachable,” Venables stated.
Hawkins echoed this sentiment before the biggest game of his young career.
“Staying consistent is key,” Hawkins said after Wednesday’s practice. “I need to focus on the details where I can improve before the Texas game. Once next week arrives, I’ll concentrate on the game plan and move forward from there.”
Hawkins has demonstrated his commitment to winning, sacrificing his body at the goal line in consecutive weeks to score for the Sooners. He plays with control and recognizes the strong team surrounding him.
