Nebraska regents give the green light for alcohol sales at Huskers football and volleyball games.

Alcohol sales will soon be available at more Nebraska Huskers sporting events, including football games and volleyball matches. This decision marks a significant change for the university’s sports venues.

On Friday, the University of Nebraska Board of Regents held a vote, resulting in a 9-1 approval of alcohol sales and consumption at all Huskers events. One board member abstained from the vote.

Currently, Nebraska is the only Big Ten school that does not offer alcohol at football games. However, with the board’s recent approval, this policy will no longer be in effect.

Nebraska Athletics has announced plans to begin offering alcohol at sporting events starting in the 2025-26 season, giving fans the opportunity to purchase alcoholic beverages at Memorial Stadium beginning next fall.

Nebraska system president Jeffrey P. Gold emphasized that the university has carefully considered how to introduce alcohol at athletic events. He expressed confidence in the university’s ability to handle alcohol sales responsibly, ensuring the safety and satisfaction of fans, student-athletes, and the institution.

In recent years, alcohol has already been sold at Huskers basketball games in Pinnacle Bank Arena, as well as baseball and softball games at Haymarket Park, without any significant alcohol-related incidents.

The university plans to allocate part of the revenue generated from alcohol sales to support alcohol safety programs, reinforcing its commitment to a safe and enjoyable fan experience.
