Fans are accusing the NFL of essentially “robbing players” after Ja’Marr Chase becomes the most recent example.
Each year, the NFL selects specific areas to emphasize and enforcesignificant. This season, kickoffs have undergone significant changes with the introduction of the “dynamic kickoff,” but it hasn’t noticeably impacted games yet. While the league’s goals for this change haven’t materialized, there are still many games remaining in the season.
However, the NFL has clearly decided to focus on penalizing “violent gestures,” especially during touchdown celebrations. Players like CeeDee Lamb and Drake London have been fined for celebrations the league considers “obscene,” typically for mimicking gun gestures.
Ja’Marr Chase fined for standard TD celebration
This week, the NFL fined another wide receiver for a celebration, with Cincinnati Bengals star Ja’Marr Chase being the latest target. However, many are struggling to pinpoint what he did wrong.
This isn’t the first time Chase has been fined this season. After a heated exchange with an official during the Bengals’ game against the Kansas City Chiefs, he received a $31,599 fine for “abusive language” directed at the referee.
While that fine drew criticism, this latest one has truly confused and upset fans. After scoring a touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens, Chase performed the Griddy dance and celebrated with teammate Tee Higgins, but many are struggling to see how this could be labeled as “unsportsmanlike” or “violent.”
Most believe the NFL is simply looking to profit in every way it can.
