Bronny James faces a challenging position in the NBA. As the son of a legendary player on one of the league’s most prominent teams, he has little margin for error. While some believe the Lakers are setting him up for failure, former Clippers star Lou Williams sees it differently.

On an episode of FanDuel’s Run It Back, Williams argued that Bronny is actually being positioned for success. He noted that having a four-year guaranteed deal as a second-round pick suggests the organization isn’t trying to set him up to fail. Instead, Williams believes Bronny is given the opportunity to develop under the guidance of both his father and other professionals in the league.

Williams thinks Bronny has the opportunity to learn as a member of the Lakers, but he can also gain experience in the G League. Transitioning directly from college to the NBA allows Bronny to be a multi-year prospect in the G League.

“Having the opportunity to play in the G League, gain plenty of minutes, acquire professional experience, and compete is valuable,” Williams stated. “There’s plenty of time, so there’s no pressure on Bronny to perform immediately, not even for next season. If that’s considered failing, I disagree—I don’t buy it.”

The biggest challenge for Bronny appears to be the Lakers putting him on the NBA court when he’s not fully prepared. This exposes the 20-year-old to excessive scrutiny from the public when he really just needs more time to develop.

Nonetheless, being a part of the Los Angeles Lakers and having the chance to learn from them is an opportunity that Bronny James should fully embrace.
