Paul Di’Anno, the former lead singer of Iron Maiden, has died at the age of 66, as confirmed by his family. Born Paul Andrews, he passed away at his home in Salisbury, Wiltshire. Di’Anno was recognized for his dynamic performances and strong vocals while leading the iconic heavy metal band from 1978 to 1981, before Bruce Dickinson took over.
His death signifies the end of an era for Iron Maiden’s early history and the heavy metal scene as a whole.
A statement from Conquest Music announced, “On behalf of his family, we are saddened to confirm the passing of Paul Andrews, known professionally as Paul Di’Anno. He died at his home in Salisbury at the age of 66.”
Born on May 17, 1958, in Chingford, East London, Di’Anno gained fame as Iron Maiden’s lead singer. His unique vocals feature on the band’s influential debut album, *Iron Maiden* (1980), and its follow-up, *Killers* (1981), both crucial in establishing the band’s early sound and paving the way for their success in heavy metal.
After departing from Iron Maiden in 1981, Di’Anno pursued a solo career and collaborated with various bands, including Battlezone and Killers. Despite facing serious health issues that required him to perform in a wheelchair, he remained dedicated to his fans, playing over 100 shows since 2023.
His career retrospective album, *The Book of the Beast*, was released in September 2024, honoring his legacy after Iron Maiden.
Conquest Music expressed their condolences: “We are proud to have had Paul Di’Anno in our artist family and encourage his fans to raise a glass in his memory.”
