Free agency in Major League Baseball is set to begin soon.

With the World Series ongoing, the Los Angeles Dodgers lead the New York Yankees 2-0. Once the World Series concludes, it will mark the end of the 2024 MLB season. Shortly thereafter, free agency will start, and the trade market will become active.

It’s still too early to predict the outcomes of free agency, but the Boston Red Sox appear ready to be proactive this winter. They are in need of a top starting pitcher, and Atlanta Braves ace Max Fried has frequently been mentioned as a good match.

However, Sportsnaut’s Matt Johnson believes the Red Sox will ultimately be outbid by the Braves.

“The Boston Red Sox have been identified as a potential destination for some of the best free agents this offseason, but recent trends indicate that the Fenway Sports Group is reluctant to spend,” Johnson stated. “Additionally, with the New York Mets pursuing other top players, there’s a clear opportunity for Max.”

“Although the bidding process could become competitive, Fried demonstrated his value to the Braves last season, and the team is expected to offer him a new contract. Max Fried’s projected contract is six years for $172 million.”

Fried would be an ideal addition for the Red Sox, especially since he has a connection to Boston through his former high school teammate, Lucas Giolito. However, will the Red Sox be able to secure a deal?
