Tennessee lineman becomes the first Vols player to declare his intention to enter the transfer portal.

The second-year center is looking for a new home.

As the Tennessee Vols prepare for a run in the College Football Playoff, head coach Josh Heupel is also navigating the time of year when some players inevitably decide to move on. This is a common occurrence as the transfer portal prepares to open.

While the Vols are expected to retain most of their roster, it’s confirmed that second-year offensive lineman Vysen Lang will not be returning to Knoxville in 2025. On Tuesday, the 6-foot-4, 335-pound player announced via social media that he plans to officially enter the transfer portal once it opens.

Lang appears to be seeking more playing time at a new program. The 6-foot-4 center, known for his size and strength, played in four games as a true freshman last season while preserving his redshirt status. This year, he found himself low on the depth chart, sitting behind standout center Cooper Mays and William Satterwhite.

Tennessee Vols OL Lysen Vang will enter the transfer portal

While Tennessee will be losing multiple linemen after this season due to graduation, it just didn’t seem like Lang was going to be in a good spot moving forward to land significant action on the field. Because of that, he’s moving on.

In the 2023 recruiting cycle, Vysen Lang was a three-star prospect and ranked as the No. 48 interior offensive lineman by 247Sports. He received over 20 offers during his recruitment, ultimately choosing Tennessee over programs like Auburn, Arkansas, Florida State, LSU, and others.

When Lang arrived in Knoxville, he was expected to become a key contributor on Josh Heupel’s offensive line. However, things didn’t pan out that way. Lang is now the first Tennessee player known to be entering the transfer portal, though more names are likely to follow in the coming week.
