Watch Bruce Springsteen join Jesse Malin, Willie Nile, Joe Grushecky & more at Light of Day benefit……….
Bruce Springsteen gave a surprise performance at Red Bank, NJ’s Count Basie Theater on Saturday night (1/18). The venue was hosting the 25th annual Light of Day benefit concert, which raises money for research into Parkinson’s disease, and Bruce first took the stage midway through, where he joined Jesse Malin on “Broken Radio” (the show was also one of Malin’s first performances since suffering from a rare spinal-cord stroke in 2023; he made his official return to the stage last year with a pair of guest-filled Beacon Theatre shows).
“We actually met at Light of Day, my first time playing these things,” Malin told the Red Bank crowd on Saturday night, as Rolling Stone reports. “We met in the green room. Wherever he is, let’s bring him out. Bruce, where are you? This is a song we recorded in 2007 on a record called Glitter in the Gutter.”
Springsteen also joined Willie Nile on “One Guitar” (along with James Maddock), and joined Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers for a bunch of tracks, including renditions of his own “Darkness on the Edge of Town,” “The Promised Land,” “Pink Cadillac,” and more, closing out the night with big group renditions of “Light of Day” and “Thunder Road.” “This has been an incredible thing these past 25 years,” Springsteen said to introduce the latter. “It’s hard to believe it was 25 years ago, Bobby [Benjamin]. The first gig was at the Pony. Damn. How the hell are we all still here? For a little while longer anyway.”
