Tragic Stuns Talking Heads: Tina Weymouth Is Dead
The music world is mourning the loss of Tina Weymouth, the iconic bassist and co-founder of the influential new wave band Talking Heads, who passed away on July 4, 2024, at the age of 73.
Born Martina Michèle Weymouth on November 22, 1950, in Coronado, California, she was the daughter of U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Ralph Weymouth and Laura Bouchage. In 1975, she co-founded Talking Heads alongside her husband, drummer Chris Frantz, and frontman David Byrne. Weymouth’s innovative basslines were instrumental in defining the band’s unique sound, blending elements of punk, funk, and world music. Beyond her work with Talking Heads, she co-founded the side project Tom Tom Club, known for hits like “Genius of Love.”
In 2002, Weymouth was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Talking Heads, cementing her legacy as a pioneer in the music industry.
She is survived by her husband, Chris Frantz, and their two sons, Egan and Robin. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
