Rangers have appealed against Mohamed Diomande’s dismissal in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Dundee United at Tannadice and the case will be heard by the Scottish FA on Tuesday.

Manager Philippe Clement signalled after the game that the Ibrox club would appeal against the midfielder’s dismissal in added time.

Diomande was shown a red card following an altercation with United’s Kevin Holt, as referee Nick Walsh stuck with his original decision following a VAR review.

The red card has been classified as violent conduct, with the 23-year-old judged to have deliberately swung his hand towards Holt’s face.

“If you get red cards for this, then you need to give three or four red cards in every game. I saw much worse things with yellow cards given.”

Diomande’s sweeping shot equalised for Rangers in the first half following Sam Dalby’s poked opener.

Robin Propper put Rangers in front with the aid of a Holt deflection and Cyriel Dessers wrapped up the points with a stunning late strike.

Clement had made four changes following Thursday’s Europa League defeat by Manchester United and was asked if he would have any injured players back for Thursday’s final league phase game at home to Union Saint-Gilloise.

“There’s a big chance Ridvan Yilmaz will be back,” he replied.

And on transfers, Clement commented: “Those are questions for [CEO] Patrick [Stewart] and the board. I’m focused on the players that are here and focused on getting results.”
