Travis Kelce: Kansas City Chiefs star says Super Bowl retirement nor Taylor Swift proposal are on the cards in New Orleans
When asked if there might be an engagement ring waiting for Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce replied, “A Super Bowl ring? Next question.” Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59 on Sunday, February 9, with the game airing live on Sky Sports NFL from 10pm and kick-off scheduled for 11.30pm.
Travis Kelce isn’t considering retirement anytime soon—even if the Kansas City Chiefs secure a third straight Super Bowl win on Sunday.
At 35, the Chiefs tight end’s future has come under increased scrutiny, especially as his off-field fame has grown due to his relationship with pop superstar Taylor Swift.
When questioned about the possibility of an engagement, Kelce brushed it off, making it clear that he has no plans to leave the NFL in the near future.
“I’ve thought about it, but I still love what I do. I love coming into work every day,” Kelce said at the Super Bowl’s opening night event in New Orleans, staged for the gathered international media outlets.
“It’s moments like these, weeks like these, the month that we just had in the playoffs that make me feel like I could play this game forever.
“I feel like I still have a lot of good football left in me. We’ll see what happens. I know I’ve been setting myself up for other opportunities in my life.
“That’s always been the goal knowing football only lasts for so long.”
But asked where he sees himself in three years time, Kelce added: “Hopefully still playing football. I plan on being a Kansas City Chief and playing football.”
Kelce remains a top performer despite not being at his peak. This season, he recorded 97 receptions for 823 yards and three touchdowns. However, his playoff form has been exceptional—he delivered a standout performance in the Chiefs’ divisional round victory over Houston, registering seven receptions for 117 yards and a touchdown. Heading into the Super Bowl, he holds the record for the most playoff catches (174) and ranks second only to Hall of Famer Jerry Rice in both receiving yards (2,039) and touchdown receptions (20).
Kelce reserved praise for Swift, saying their relationship helps motivate him to keep performing on the football field.
“I better hold up my end of the bargain,” he said. “If she’s out here being the superstar she is, never taking no for an answer, and always working her tail off, I better match that energy for sure.
“I think we both love to manifest things. You can’t say it’s not real because we’re here, right?”
But asked whether he plans to give Swift an engagement ring after Super Bowl Sunday, should the Chiefs win a three in a row, Kelce quickly shut things down by responding: “A Super Bowl ring? Next question.”
Another reporter who tried with a follow-up was met with equal resistance. “Man, back-to-back? You guys are crazy,” Kelce replied.
There has been buzz about Pennsylvania native Taylor Swift’s team allegiance now that Philadelphia has advanced to Super Bowl LIX against Kansas City. However, Kelce is confident about where her support lies. “I know her father is an Eagles fan,” he said, “but this time, she’ll undoubtedly be cheering for the Chiefs.”
