Report: Several NFL clubs are interested in hiring Chip Kelly as their offensive coordinator.
After seeming to revolutionize the professional game for a short time a decade ago, might Chip Kelly make a comeback to the NFL?
Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports reports that Kelly is “drawing interest” from many clubs for offensive coordinator openings.
Kelly has led UCLA for the previous six seasons, leading the team to a lackluster 35-34 record. As the head coach of the Eagles, Kelly had two 10-6 seasons to start his professional career until the Kelly era ended abruptly in 2015. For the 2016 season, Kelly left the 49ers to play for the San Francisco 49ers, where his team finished with a 2-14 record.
Given his, uh, egomaniacal tendencies, Kelly has always seemed more like a college coach than a professional, but it would be surprising to see him back in the NFL after such a lengthy absence.
The obvious question is this: If the Eagles decide to go ahead with new coordinators, would they be interested?
Oh, no.
I could spend the next 24 hours naming off more players, but here are some names who have a greater chance of succeeding ol’ Chip as the next play-caller for the Eagles: Dom DiSandro, Jimmy Kempski, Joe Jurevicius, Barry Keoghan, Quinta Brunson, Jim Kenney.
