After leading the Black Cats into the play-offs the previous season, Mowbray served as Wearside’s manager for 15 months before being fired by Sunderland at the beginning of December. With just two victories in their previous 15 league games, Birmingham will be led by him. As a result, the Blues parted ways with Wayne Rooney.

When Mowbray was in command of the Black Cats in November, Sunderland defeated Birmingham 3-1 at the Stadium of Light, leaving Birmingham in 20th place in the Championship. On Saturday, February 17, the rematch will take place at St Andrew’s.
