After the Eagles’ disastrous regular season, do they still have faith in Sirianni?

IN RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSY — Do the Eagles have any remaining faith in Nick Sirianni?

They assert that they do.

They are not acting like it, for sure.

Jalen Hurts declared, “I have a lot of confidence in Coach.” He gives it everything he has. He is determined to succeed. Really, that is all that is possible to ask for.

Jalen, no. You are able to request more. Jeffrey Lurie, the owner, will, I promise you.

because the Eagles are currently not a football team with a strong coaching staff. It would be an understatement to say they are barely making it into the playoffs after losing five of their previous six games.

The Eagles had a 10-1 record at the start of the season, but things quickly went south. They are currently 11-6 and will travel to the Bucs for next Monday’s wild card round matchup. Though it is far from certain, they are in some way the road favorites and could succeed.

Yes, it was clearly inadequate. Not good, Sirianni remarked. “There is not really an explanation; we just did not do the things we needed to do to succeed. We did not coach well enough, and we did not play well enough. And I am the first to do that.

Sirianni is accurate. He is the first to do it.

The Eagles were unaware at kickoff that a victory on Sunday would have ultimately had no bearing on seeding because the Cowboys had won to claim the NFC East. For a while, the Commanders were doing their part to hinder the Cowboys as they played to win this game.

Heck, the Eagles’ 24-0 loss to the humble Giants was the very reason Sirianni decided to bench his starters.

When Sunday’s game ended, someone asked Sirianni if he felt the Eagles’ locker room still had faith in him.

Indeed, Sirianni acknowledged, “I felt that we had a lot of belief in that locker room.” Many teams would love to be in our position of qualifying for the playoffs, but we know everyone. We are going to Tampa Bay and everything now that we are in the playoffs.

“This week, everyone needs to give it their all. All of us in that locker room, myself included, after the coaches had finished assembling the plan. Everyone is 0-0 heading into this week, so we need all of the players, coaches, staff, and hands-on deck to leave everything they own in this locker room.

Perhaps Sirianni senses his players’ support after all. Building the culture has taken a lot of his time.

However, why should his teammates still believe in him?

Indeed. You can ask them that, really,” Sirianni retorted. Regarding that, clearly, we have dropped five of our previous six games, but the remainder of the campaign is still valid. You are welcome to ask them that query.

Indeed, we did. in multiple ways.

Of course, it seems absurd to even consider asking what will happen to a head coach who was responsible for getting the Eagles to the Super Bowl less than a year ago. However, the fact that those inquiries are now entirely justified only serves to highlight how dire things have become. Being embarrassed is something Lurie detests above all else. And for the past two weeks, the Eagles have been embarrassing.

Veteran center Jason Kelce said, “I think everyone in the locker room has faith in Nick Sirianni.” “I think it would be an understatement to say that the past month has not been beautiful, but we have played a ton of really, really good football with Nick. He does a lot of really excellent organizational work, in my opinion.

Without a doubt, Sirianni has achieved success in Philadelphia. In all three of his seasons in charge, the Eagles have qualified for the postseason; in 2021 and 2022, they exceeded expectations. In 2021, he led them to the playoffs following a very unimpressive 2–5 start. Additionally, Sirianni led them admirably to Super Bowl LVII the previous season before losing to the Chiefs.

However, even though the Eagles started the season with a 10-1 record, during this terrible stretch to close the regular season, cracks started to show.

The offense lacks creativity and is uninspired. Additionally, since the misguided decision to change coordinators in the middle of the game, the defense has been an absolute disaster.

Thus, once more, what makes the Eagles believe in Sirianni?

Dallas Goedert, a tight end, said, “I do not even know, what, we finished 11-6 that is not a terrible record.” We clearly had a stronger start to the season than we did at the end. However, last year’s season was lengthy. I can tell that everyone in this locker room is prepared to work hard come playoff time.

Speaking with players made it abundantly evident that Sirianni wanted his team to start the playoffs with a clean slate. He said they would take this as a lesson. According to him, teams would adore being in their shoes. He declared, “This is a team of fighters.” He said that everyone would need to help.

Both to his players and in public, Sirianni has expressed a great deal. If any of it is still making it through, we will find out shortly enough.
