Ipswich Town has signed Axel Tuanzebe to a one-year contract, with the option of an additional year.
After his contract expired in the summer, the defender left Manchester United and has been considering his options.
In an effort to continue the Tractor Boys’ strong start to the season, he has agreed to work with former Reds coach Kieran McKenna at Portman Road after training with the Championship team.
Brandon Williams signed a contract to play on loan in Suffolk for the entire season, and McKenna has already raided Old Trafford for his services.
Axel gained popularity among the United team members after demonstrating his leadership and defensive prowess during his Academy career.
The center back played in 37 games for the Reds overall, 19 of which were in the Premier League, after making his senior debut in an FA Cup victory over Wigan Athletic in January 2017.
When Tuanzebe led the team in a September 2019 Carabao Cup matchup against his hometown team, Rochdale, it was a moment of pride for both him and his family.
He played his last game for us against Villarreal in the Europa League final in 2021.
Axel, who has been on loan at Aston Villa, Napoli, and Stoke City, is excited to start at his new team, Ipswich, which is aiming to push for promotion.
Following the international break, Town’s next game is on the road at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, September 16.
In the meantime, Charlie Wellens, another Academy product that was unveiled in the summer, has agreed to a League One contract with Reading. Charlie Savage and the 20-year-old are now teammates once more with the Royals.
We at United want to thank Axel and Charlie for all of their hard work at the club and wish them the best of luck for the remainder of the current season and beyond.
